CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Tossed Out… Saving Food In America offered by ON THE MOVE will be held Thursday, January 8th from 4-5 pm at the Hi-Liner Activity Center lobby, Valley City Public Schools, east of the Barnes County courthouse.

Susan Milender, licensed registered dietitian and Barnes County Extension Agent will be the instructor.

This class investigates the impact of food waste on the people and the environment in which we live.  In the U.S.A. 40% of food goes uneaten with American families throwing out 25% of the food they buy.  Milender states that uneaten food is the single largest component of U.S. municipal solid waste where it accounts for a large portion of methane emissions. Milender will focus on practical approaches for us to reduce food waste, and save money at the household level.

Teachers will be able to count this 1 hour session towards their Continuing Education Units (CEUs).  Through the many ON THE MOVE  classes teachers would be able to get 15 hours which will count as one graduate credit.

The class is free to all ON THE MOVE members and $5 for non members. Everyone is invited to attend. For more information about ON THE MOVE  or to join, go to the website www.barnesonthemove.org or phone 845-6456.
