N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council met in their regular session to discuss the first few items in 2015.
Two areas were requested to be vacated in the beginning of the meeting. One lot near the 7th Day Adventist Church was approved following a public hearing. Another hearing was held concerning a request to vacate a lot adjacent to the Jehovah’s Witness Church. The item was tabled until next month.
Other items discussed included entering a CORS Host Agreement with Butler Machinery Company to attach a CORS Station at the Water Treatment Plant in Jamestown. The item had been before the city council before and had been tabled pending further information and a review by City Attorney Ken Dalsted. Attorney Dalsted pointed out that the agreement needed more work before they decided on it.
Audience member Nellie Degen came before the council and explained that she was selected as a liaison for the North Dakota Fraternal Order of Police James River Valley Chapter. She offered her assistance and support in setting up goals and objectives with local government.
Several appointments were made and approved as well. Another item that came before the council was the sale of the current portable basketball floor and backstops at the Jamestown Civic Center to Tom Tracy in the amount of $18,000. This is dependent on the purchase of a new floor and backstops for the center.
One of the final items discussed near the end of the meeting was the bid for Storm Drain Cleaning. Council members previously discussed the importance of clearing out the storm drain to prevent flooding when quick melts or heavy rains occur. Scherbenske Inc. was the only bidder, but did not meet the adequate standards previously set and was out of the price range.
Tyler Szackowski, a representative with Scherbenske Inc., came before the board and requested that their proposal be considered.
The council later approved to award the project to Scherbenske.
