CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City resident Bob Drake believes the city commission was given the wrong information from City Administrator David Schelkoph and City Building Inspector Dave Andersen concerning the law behind the flood buyout process. Drake believes homes in the city could have been purchased and moved to other locations. He believes the city commission should have done their due diligence by taking a closer look instead of relying on the opinion of two city officials.
Drake says his group is seeking an attorney’s advice as to whether they should pursue a class action lawsuit against the city or pursue an individual lawsuit against Schelkoph and Andersen. He believes the city has lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in potential property tax collections and that these men should be reprimanded or fired.
Schelkoph and Andersen told Dakota Country Radio they did nothing wrong and they have not mislead the city commission concerning the flood buyout process. They believe they gave the city commission the best facts available during the buyout process.
