N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A plea deal is possible in a deadly crash near Hillsboro last May. James Yahnke of Nielsville, Minnesota is charged in the deaths of two sisters who were killed when a car driven by Yahnke crashed at high speed. The state patrol determined that the car was going 94 miles-an-hour.
Yahnke told a Traill County deputy that he’d been drinking prior to the wreck. A change of plea hearing is scheduled for January 21st.
Yahnke’s lawyer says the judge has been told that he and the prosecutor are close to reaching an agreement.
21 year-old Teja Beyer of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota and her sister, 23 year-old Mercedes Rowley of Sharon, North Dakota died from their injuries after they were thrown out of the car during the crash.
