N.D. (AP) – Governor Jack Dalrymple says the North
Dakota Legislature was right to decide not to set up a state-run
health insurance exchange. States are setting up the exchanges as
part of the new federal health insurance law. They’re deciding
whether they want to run their own exchanges or let the federal
government do it.
     
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem
 wants a lawsuit dismissed that a group of American
Indian students at the University of North Dakota filed against the
state. The students argue the school’s Fighting Sioux nickname has
created a hostile environment on campus. Last week, the Legislature
approved a bill that says UND no longer has to use the nickname.
     
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A 30-year-old Douglas man drowned early
yesterday in Ward County. The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the
man’s pickup truck drifted into loose gravel and rock and then
rolled over into a water-filled ditch. Troopers say the man got out
and tried to swim to shore but was overtaken by the water’s frigid
temperatures.
     
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Senators Kent Conrad and John
Hoeven plan to attend an energy conference in Bismarck this week.
The two-day Energy Expo looks to explore ways to enhance the
state’s standing as a top energy producer.
