CITY (VCSU) – The Valley City State University football team will face Carroll College in the first round of the NAIA playoffs, the national office announced Sunday.

VCSU, ranked No. 14 in the country, will play at No. 1-ranked Carroll College on Saturday, Nov. 22. Game time is to be determined. The Vikings are making their eighth NAIA playoff appearance, and fourth playoff appearance under coach Dennis McCulloch. 

It is the fourth straight time that VCSU will play Carroll College in the playoffs. The Vikings faced Carroll College in the three previous playoff games under Coach McCulloch. In 2000, VCSU hosted Carroll at the Fargodome and lost 24-21. In 2001, the Vikings traveled to Carroll and lost 45-27. In 2011, VCSU was ranked No. 12 and went on the road to No. 2 Carroll, losing 47-0. 

The Vikings moved up one spot to No. 14 in the final regular season poll released on Sunday. It is the highest ranking for VCSU since being ranked No. 12 in the 2011 final regular season poll. In 2011, the Vikings went to Carroll in the first round of the playoffs and lost 47-0.

Valley City State University finished the regular season 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the North Star Athletic Association, winning their fourth straight conference championship.
