Blaisdell Johnson was born on April 23, 1926 in Jamestown, ND, the son of Perry V. and Alice (Pearson) Johnson. He graduated from Jamestown High School and then enlisted in the US Marine Corps on April 1, 1944. Blaise served with the Fleet Marine Force in the South Pacific during WWII and was discharged in July 1946. He returned to Jamestown and graduated from Jamestown College in 1950 with a degree in business, marrying Emmarillis “Emy” Jordan on September 17th that year. They made their home in Jamestown where Blaise was Stockholder and Secretary-Treasurer of Johnson Bros. Inc., a J.I. Case Equipment dealer, from 1946 until 1965. He joined the staff of James River National Bank (now Wells Fargo) in 1965, retiring as Vice President in 1984. He graduated from the Midwest Banking Institute in 1971 and the Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking in 1974. Blaise was a lecturer at the UND School of Banking from 1974-1979. Blaise was a member of the American Legion, Jamestown Elks Lodge #995, Jamestown Country Club, United Presbyterian Church, and V.F.W.
Blaise held various positions within the North Dakota American Legion including: Post Commander of Jamestown Legion Post #14, 4th District Commander, Dept. Vice-Commander, ND Finance Officer, and the Speakers Bureau. He served on the Executive Board of the ND Bankers Association, was a Deacon and Trustee at the United Presbyterian Church, member of the Board of Directors of Alfred Dickey Library, Board of Directors of the Jamestown Country Club, Board of Directors of the Jamestown Rotary club, a member of the Jamestown Park Board, the Board of Trustees and Alumni Executive Committee of Jamestown College, Secretary-Treasurer and Director of the Jamestown Medical Association, Charter Member and President of the James River Chapter Bank Administration Institute, and Secretary of the Jamestown Elks Lodge #995. Blaise was also active with the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce as Chairman of the Ag Committee, member of the Public Relations Committee, and Military Affairs.
Blaise enjoyed all sports, hunting and fishing, public speaking, reading, and spending winters in Mesa, Arizona.
Blaise is survived by his sister Joann Ewen, Mayville ND; two sons, Blaise “Sparky” (Vicki) Johnson, West Fargo, ND and Bradd (Diane) Johnson, Highlands Ranch, CO; four grandchildren, Angela (Steve) Saxlund, Kimberly (Cole) Longtin, all of West Fargo, ND, Sawyer Johnson and Cami Johnson of Highlands Ranch, CO; five great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Peyton and Brynlee Saxlund and Kason and Lennon Longtin.
He was preceded in death by his wife Emy, and his parents Perry and Alice.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown. Reception to immediately follow at the church.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 10, 2014 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND.
Interment: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elks Camp Grassick, the University of Jamestown, or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
