CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The North Dakota High School Activates Association Board of Directors has approved a realignment plan on Wednesday that will move Valley City High school in the West Region in 2A football.

The Hi-Liners find themselves moving west after Minot Bishop Ryan drops to the class 1A, and Hillsboro/Central Valley jumps up to 2A leaving a large concentration of the 16 team division in the east.

The new two year realignment will have the Hi-Liners playing teams like Watford City, Buelah, and Dickinson on a regular basis.

Another shake up comes in the 1A where the division will drop from 32 teams to 24 next season. The division will hold on to four regions but drop to six teams in each. The new playoff format will take the top three teams from each region. The first place teams will be awarded a bye week in the opening round, while two second place teams will receive a bye week as well. The second place teams will receive the bye week on a rotational basis.

Aside from the addition of Bismarck Legacy to the West Region, 3A football will stay the same.  Both 3A and 2A will keep the same playoff format with the top four teams from each region making the post season.
