OAKES (NewsDakota.com) The students who attend school in Oakes have once again come together to make a difference; this time for a fellow student and her family.

Roney, who is a senior at Oakes High, was recently diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Within the last week, students have been selling raffle tickets at each to help support the cost of medical expenses. As of Thursday night, the students have raised a total of ,000; ,000 of which was collected in the previous 24 hours.
In a show of solidarity, as well as to recognize the effort put on by the students, some high school students and staff allowed their hair to be shaved Thursday.
Roney is schedule to start radiation treatments in the near future. She is currently ranked second in her graduating class, has received the Presidential Scholarship from Valley City State University and plans to study accounting in college.
