CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Red River Valley Veterans Concert Band will be in Valley City on Thursday, October 9. The free concert will feature the all-volunteer band under the direction of Aaron Romaine.

Event coordinator Brad Schmidt says the music touches the hearts of many people, including veterans who are special in our mission. He says the RRVVCB has a wonderful heritage, dating back to the WWII as many veterans were returning home. They were first known as the Gilbert C. Grafton Post 2 Legion Band.

The RRVVCB mission is to promote patriotism through music for veteran organizations, nursing homes, retirement centers, and the general public.

The band is over 50 years old, volunteer band members comes from all walks of life, many being veterans. The senior member Dale Howard plays an incredible lead clarinet at the age of 93. The WWII navy veteran has  played in big bands, including Glenn Miller and Tex Beneke bands.

The band plays a wide range of music, from ballads to marches, swing band to Broadway show tunes. Some TV theme songs, Dixieland, Rock and Roll, and once in a while a Latin dance piece.

The first concert will be at the Sheyenne Care Center will be for their residents and families. The public is invited to attend the community concert at Vangstad Auditorium stating at 8pm Thursday, October 9. The concerts are free and open to the public.
