(NewsDakota.com) – For the second time in less than a month the Jimmie and Viking football teams got together on the gridiron and it was very much the same result. Valley City State capitalized on some key mistakes and outscored the Jimmies 21-0 in the second half to pick up their third win of the season, 48-17.
The turning point of the game came early in the second half. The Jimmies got a 47-yard field goal from Grant Linde just before halftime to cut the deficit to 10 and then on the opening drive of the half stopped VCSU to a three-and-out. Two plays into the ensuing drive, Jamestown QB Beau Eriksson’s pass intended for Mike Sena kicked off Sena’s hands and was intercepted.
The third Jimmie turnover of the day set the Vikings in prime field position and they took advantage scoring just a few plays later to take a 34-17 lead and were never threatened again.
VCSU freshman WR Antoine Griffin continued his fantastic start with two more touchdown (after scoring three last week against Dickinson State). He had one via a punt return and also scored on an option run with back-up QB John Hansana.
The Vikings will host Waldorf on Saturday for Homecoming. Jamestown is on the road at Dickinson State.
