(NewsDakota.com) An Oakes man has been charged with DUI after a single vehicle accident just south of Oakes along North Dakota Highway 1 on Tuesday Morning.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says 68 year old Donnel Hankel was driving south along the highway around 11:15 a.m. when he drove over the northbound lanes, clipped a power pole, and came to rest in a grove of trees. The trooper on scene told KDDR radio the man was taken to the Oakes Community Hospital for minor injuries.

In addition to the DUI charge, Hankel was cited for driving without liability insurance. The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
