N.D. – The North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame will host a Home on the Range Champions Match (bronc) Ride Calcutta at its Medora facility on Friday, August 1, 2014 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The event, which will be held the evening before the Sentinel Butte Champions Match (bronc) Ride, will feature a social hour with light grub beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Calcutta at 7:00 p.m. and music and dancing throughout the rest of the evening.  Ross Glass will be the auctioneer.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Home on the Range ranch/facility whose philosophy statement is:  “Service to children and families, and leadership in the child care field.”

The Calcutta is an open auction held in conjunction with the first go-round of the Champions Match Ride, where bidders will bid amongst themselves to “buy” one of up to 30 rodeo riders/contestants, with each contestant being assigned to the highest bidder.  A payment will then be made to the bidder, based upon their contestant’s performance.

The Home on the Range Champions Match Ride is a saddle-bronc riding contest that draws the best riders in the country for what is a 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 2, 2014 event. The Champions Match Ride was created in the late 1950s by some of North Dakota’s top riders, including Jim and Tom Tescher, to benefit Home on the Range.
