J. Vleck, 91, formerly of Buxton, ND went home to be with his Lord in heaven, Sunday, July 20, 2014.

Walter Joseph Vleck was born March 13, 1923 in Easby Township, ND, the son of Theodore and Olga Pauline (Fleischmann) Vleck. He grew up on a farm near Osnabrock, ND and graduated from Osnabrock High School.

Walter farmed with his Dad for about 10 years before attending telegrapher’s school in Minneapolis and working for Great Northern Railroad. He married Virginia Hoag on September 5, 1953 at the Assembly of God Church in Moorhead, MN. They lived in Hillsboro, ND until 1958; in Hunter, ND until 1960; and in Buxton, ND until 1962 before moving to their farm just west of Buxton. His railroad job continued with Burlington Northern and Amtrak, taking him to 48 places in 31 years.

After retirement, he launched a sanitation business, working for several more years. In addition to his railroad job, Walter sold Watkins for awhile, painted houses, did carpentry work, shingling, tree trimming, major remodeling, plus working on his farm.

In 2008 they moved to East Grand Forks, MN. After Virginia passed away in 2009, Walter moved to Mayville, ND and then to Valley City, ND in 2014.

Walter loved traveling, laughing, visiting old friends, making new friends, woodworking, finding bargains, keeping up on current events, improving their farm, caring for their many animals, reading after the sun went down, supporting pro-life, and enjoying his grandchildren. Walter held a strong Christian faith and loved his church, singing hymns and praying.

Walter will forever be cherished by his children Gloria (Jim) Schneider, Fall Creek, WI; John (Janice) Vleck, Pullman, WA; Wayne (Beverly) Vleck, Valley City, ND; Phyllis (Fubara) Dapper, Lakeville, MN; treasured by his grandchildren Patrick Cofell, Christy (Caleb) Haugen, Jennifer Vleck, Jace Vleck, Joylissa Vleck, Anthony Vleck, Brandon Dapper, William Dapper, Blake Dapper and great grandchild Rueben Haugen; and beloved by his sisters Betty Ayers, Cleveland, OH, and Ida Mae Overmoe, Grand Forks, ND.

He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, parents, infant brother Johnny, and sisters Marion Smith and Margaret Olson.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 27 at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel in Valley City. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 28 at New Life Assembly of God Church in Valley City. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Harwood, N.D.
