CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) Despite a strong start, Valley City Legion Post 60 fell to Harvey Friday night by a score of 8-4 in the regional match up. Harvey would also take the non-league game by a score of 8-0.
Valley City opened up the scoring in the region game taking an early three run lead on RBI’s from Chase Carpender, Been Baasch and Jakob Miller. However, in the third inning momentum would start to sway.
Harvey plated their first run when Shaun Kourajian came home on an RBI double from Biran Fike. An inning later they would tie up the game when both Brock Hagemeister and Evan Nitz snatched home on back to back wild pitches from Carpender. Harvey would take back the lead later in the frame on a Kourajian RBI double. With three more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth Harvey would complete the comeback victory for their first region win of the seaoson.
Valley City scored one more run in the seventh on Baasch’s second RBI of the night. Carpender pitched 4 1/3 innings for Valley giving up four runs on five hits in the loss. Mark Nyhus earned the win for Harvey striking out seven batters while allowing four runs on 11 hits.
In the nights second contest, Harvey started off strong and never looked back. They put up four runs in the first innings before spreading out four more in the final four stanzas.
After a tough Friday night, Valley City now stands 3-10 on the season with a 2-4 in East Region record. Valley City returns to the diamond on Saturday afternoon at 4pm when they host Grafton at Charlie Brown field.
