N.D (NewsDakota.com) the Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team made their way to Napoleon for a Wednesday night double header, and for the first time this season they would find themselves on the losing side of a district game as Napoleon took the opening contest 3-2. VC would bounce back in the second game taking a 15-10 non-district win.
In the opening match up, both teams struggled to score due to strong pitching. Hurling the ball for Valley was Nate Rodriguez who was outstanding through seven innings on the mound allowing just two runs, five hits and striking out 13 batters.
While Napoleon struggled to score runs so did Valley as both teams ended the seven inning game tied at two. In the first added inning, Napoleon used strong defense to keep the visitors off the board. In the bottom of the frame they would walk off with the first victory over Valley City in district play by a score of 3-2.
After the game Lance Lukes spoke about the loss saying, “This is a tough one to swallow, both pitchers pitched great. It’s the little things in the game of Baseball that make the difference sometimes. We committed five errors in the game and it is going to be hard to win committing that many errors when two pitchers are throwing that well.”
The loss drops valley city to 7-1 in district play.
What the first game was to defense the second was to offense. Both teams reached double digits on the score board but it would be Valley City who walked away with a 15-10 win.
Jaden Oestern led VC at the plate finishing the day three for three with three RBIs. Drew Jacobson was just as successful, ending his night with a two hit game and two ribbies. On the mound Riley Miller picked up the win.
Overall, Valley City now stands 16-6 on the season. They return home tonight where they host Wishek in two district games.
