Mary Wendel, age 90, peacefully went to be with God on June 19, 2014, surrounded by her children.

Beatrice grew up in Fried, ND, with her parents Laura and Theodore Gospodor. She attended rural school at the Uxbridge School.

Beatrice married Rudolph Wendel on October 22, 1941, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sanborn, ND. They raised their family and farmed until retiring to Valley City. Rudy died in 2006.

Beatrice remained busy volunteering and working up to her final illness. She was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.

Beatrice is survived by her children: Pearl (John) Keller, Seattle, WA; Dennis (Marsha) Wendel, LaMoure, ND; Charles (Ann) Wendel, Kathryn, ND; and Jacob (Joan) Wendel, Spokane, WA. She is also survived by sisters: Lorraine Schoeppach, Anoka, MN, and Bernice Papie, Pasco, WA, and her brother: Bernard Gospodor, Garrison, MN, as well as 19 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren. Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rudolph, and her sister Genevieve Carlson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Sunday, June 22 at Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Monday, June 23 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sanborn.
