(NewsDakota.com)  Five Carrington area women competed for generous scholarships at the Miss North Dakota Scholarship Pageant during three nights of competition, June 5-7, in Williston, North Dakota.  They brought home ,650 in cash scholarships and ,000 in applied tuition scholarships.

Miss Carrington, Miranda Peterson, was awarded the Salute Page Scholarship of $100 for two additional Salute Pages, the Miss North Dakota Participation Scholarship of $800, the Williston State College tuition scholarship of $400 and the Youth Education on Stage Scholarship of $50. She performed her vocal/piano talent, “A Thousand Miles”, and promoted her platform issue,”Positive Body Image”. She will be a junior at the Minnesota State University Moorhead and is the daughter of Randy and Barb Peterson.

Miss Dakota Country, Bailey Schumann, was awarded the Non-finalist Dance Award of $200, Non-finalist Eveningwear Award of $200, Non-finalist Talent Award (Nu Group) of $200, the Youth Pageant Participation Award of $100, the Salute Page Scholarship of $50 for one additional Salute Page, the Miss ND Participation Scholarship of $800, the Williston State College tuition scholarship of $400 and the Youth Education on Stage Scholarship of $50. She performed an en pointe ballet to “The Lion King” and promoted her platform issue, “Leading the Way With Violence Prevention”. She will be a freshman at Minnesota State University Moorhead and is the daughter of Shane and Alison Schumann.

Miss Geographical Center, Serena Buskness, was awarded the Preliminary Swimsuit/Fitness Award of $100, the Salute Page Scholarship of $50 for one additional Salute Page, the Miss North Dakota Participation Scholarship of $800, a $400 tuition scholarship to Williston State College and the $50 Youth Education on Stage Scholarship. She performed a lyrical dance to “Only Hope” and promoted her platform issue,’Your Actions Matter: Stand Up to Bullying”.  She is a graduate of Bismarck State College and is the daughter of Robert and Karen Buskness.

Miss Empire, Alyssa Ralston, was awarded the Non-finalist Interview Award of $200, the Miss ND Participation Scholarship of $800, the Williston State College tuition scholarship of $400, and the Youth Education on Stage Scholarship of $50. She performed a musical theater vocal, “Show Off” and promoted her platform issue,”Back To The Basics: Education & Empowerment to Prevent Bullying”. She is a graduate of North Dakota State University and is the daughter of Dean and Corrine Ralston.

Miss Williston, Carlie Meehan, was awarded the Non-Finalist Talent Award (Delta Group) of $200, the Miss North Dakota Participation Scholarship of $800, the Williston State College tuition Scholarship of $400 and the Youth Education On Stage Scholarship of $50.  She performed the piano solo, “Whitewater Chopsticks” and promoted her platform issue, “Healthy Choices, Happy Kids”. She is the daughter of Craig and Denette Meehan. 

Jacky Arness, was crowned Miss North Dakota. She performed a vocal solo, “Feelin’ Good” and promoted her platform issue, “Empowerment VIA Ownership: Values, Image, Actions”. She is a Fargo native and attends Bethel University, St. Paul, Minn. She will represent North Dakota at the Miss America Scholarship Pageant in September.
