Wieland, age 67, of Sanborn, ND, died Thursday, May 29th at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 3rd at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City, ND.  Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and one hour before the service on Tuesday afternoon.  A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Monday evening at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, rural Dazey, ND.

Thomas Duane Wieland, Sr. was born July 10, 1946 in Fargo, ND.  He grew up on the family farm near Dazey, ND.  Thomas attended school at St. Catherine’s Catholic School in Valley City and graduated from St. Catherine’s in 1964.  Thomas enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard and served for six years.  He married Diana Lutjens on January 14, 1967 in Valley City, ND.  The couple lived on the family farm near Dazey, ND where he also raised cattle.  Working cattle was Tom’s true passion.  Tom worked for McDonald Livestock, West Fargo Stock Yard and also Central Livestock.  He also worked for Mike Heinze Land Clearing as a heavy equipment operator.  He also did farm work for Larry and Danny Undem near Rogers, ND.  He was currently employed by the North Dakota Winter Show as the Barn Manager.  Tom was described as a very hard worker that went nonstop from sun up to sun down.  If anyone needed help, he was always the one to be counted on to show up and lend a hand.  Tom loved the outdoors, he loved riding horse in Medora, ND with his daughter Tonya, hunting Elk in Montana and pheasant hunting with his grandsons.  Tom served as a Sibley Trail Township officer, Dazey Shipping Association where he served as Chairman of the Board for 5 years, was a Past Commander of the Am Vets Post #3, Past Commander of the Dazey American Legion, a director with the Ashtabula Land Owners and Lake Users Association and was a Past President, Secretary and board member of the Dazey Sodbuster Club.  He was also a proud member of the NRA.

Thomas is survived by his two daughters, Lori Quick (Tony Jochim) Spiritwood, ND and Tonya (Mark) Schlotman, Valley City, ND; grandchildren, Trevor Quick, Billings, MT, Daniel Wieland, Sanborn, ND, Josh Quick, Sibley, ND, Luke Wieland, Valley City, ND, Jocelyn Jorissen, Samantha Schlotman and Thomas Cooper Schlotman, all Valley City, ND; one daughter in law, Beth Didier, Eckelson, ND; Numerous nieces and nephews; special family members, Bobbi Jo Langemo and Lindsey Schroeder; and his beloved dog Ana.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Florence Wieland and his son Thomas Duane Wieland, Jr.
