CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) On a windy night at Charlie Brown field, the Hi-Liners baseball team found themselves on the losing end of a 16-2 and 18-3 finals against Fargo South.
The losses drop the Hi-Liners to 1-17 on the season with a 0-14 conference record. The Bruins move to 11-7 on the year with a 9-6 record in the EDC.
In the first game, the Bruins opened the scoring in the first inning when Andrew Penny drove in two runs on a hard hit line drive to left centerfield. Brennan Bennington and Dallas Raftevold would also finish the opening frame with multiple RBIs steering the Bruins to a 9 run first.
The Bruins would expand the lead in the third inning with four more runs before finishing off the game with a three run final inning.
The Hi-Liners only runs came in the fourth inning when Nate Rodriguez drove in both Ben Baasch and Austen Meyer.
In the second game, the Hi-Liners got out to a 3-2 lead through the first two innings before a five run fourth inning opened the door for the Bruins second victory of the day.
Valley City wraps up the season on Thursday and Saturday when they take on Grand Forks Red River and Devils Lake.
