Kan (NewsDakota.com) – Jacob Webb will probably get drafted come June’s MLB Draft and the sophomore from Riverside, California did not disappoint. The right-hander faced just 32 batters over the course of nine shutout innings as his Tabor College team knocked off the Jimmies 4-0 to advance to the Hutchinson Regional championship game.
Jamestown’s only real chance to score came in the sixth inning. With two outs Rudy Strnad walked, Erik Peterson followed with a single, and Landon Uetz was walked to load the bases. Paul Sitkowski grounded out to end the inning and leave the bases loaded. This came the half inning after Tabor scored the games first three runs, finally scratching across some runs against Jimmie starter Tanner Dahl.
Two outs in the top of the sixth and a runner on second, Coach Tom Hager elected to intentionally walk Kevin Seeger, the NAIA home run leader, to face Kennan Chanin. Chanin fell behind in the count before lofting a fly ball down the right field line that kicked up chalk for a triple and a pair of runs. Pete Lelich’s RBI single scored Chanin and the Bluejays had all they needed with Webb on the hill.
The Jays added an unearned run in the ninth off of Gaige Dunn for a 4-0 final score.
The loss sends the Jimmies to the loser bracket where they will play the winner of Viterbo/Mayville who will play at 1pm on Wednesday. Game time for the Jimmies is set for 5pm Wednesday.
