N.D. (AP) – Spring planting continues to lag behind the average pace in North Dakota because of cool, wet weather.

The Agriculture Department says in its weekly crop report that 11 percent of the state’s spring wheat crop is planted, compared to 39 percent on average, and only 1 percent of the durum wheat is in the ground, compared to 23 percent.

Seeding of barley, oats, canola, flaxseed, dry edible peas, potatoes, sugar beets and corn also is behind the average pace over the past five years.

The report says North Dakota ranchers have been busy the past week moving animals from winter feeding areas to pastures. Calving is 87 percent complete.
