N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Stress testing technology at Carrington Health Center has recently received an upgrade. The CASE Exercise Testing System, a product of General Electric (GE) Healthcare, is a stand-alone unit allowing medical providers to quickly and easily assess cardiac function during exercise.
Featuring industry-leading algorithms to calculate the heart’s function, the CASE system also features improved ease for use with electronic medical records. The treadmill focuses on patient safety during the exam by providing an extra-long 60 inch surface, full front and side handrails, a zero start feature to gradually build up speed, and the ability to be either brought to an immediate or gradual stop depending on the patient need.
A stress test is a stress electrocardiogram recording while an individual walks on a treadmill. The exam helps physicians evaluate the cause of chest pain or other complaints. Several types of stress testing are offered at Carrington Health Center, including those with or without nuclear imaging.
Cardiolite nuclear imaging stress test includes the use of a tracer, which is a small amount of radioactive material. A camera then scans the heart to check blood flow to the heart muscle.
For those individuals who cannot walk on a treadmill, a medication may be used instead to simulate the heart rate of exercise.
Treadmill stress testing is a service offered at Carrington Health Center for over 25 years. The program is coordinated by Carmen McManus, RN, with medical provider supervision and interpretation. For more information on stress testing, please contact Carmen at 652-7174.
