CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) It was with heavy hearts last night that the Valley City State University said good bye to Vikings Baseball stand out, Dan Buehner who passed away on Monday.
At a Remembrance Gathering for the Vikings catcher students, facility, and administration shared their memories of the Buehner with one another in the crowded gym.
A letter from Buehner’s father was read by Vikings head coach Casey Olney. In the note, his dad thanked the school and city for all the support they had shown the family over the past few days. He also asked that the team return to the diamond to continue their season in honor of his son. The Vikings will do just that as they host Mayville State on Friday afternoon at 1pm.
After the shared memories inside the bubble, those in attendance went out to Shelly Ellig Field where they released balloons that featured the schools colors. On each of them was a message to the fallen Viking.
Memorial services for Buehner have not been announced of yet. He is survived by his mother, father and an older sister.
