(NewsDakota.com)- Jamestown took care of business in their opening baseball game of the season. The Jays took down St. Mary’s 11-0 Friday night for their first win of the season. The Saints would take the nightcap, 1-0, which is a non-conference game.

Junior Brian Wenzel was given 11 runs in support of his first start of the season, but he didn’t need it. Wenzel scattered six hits over the course of five shutout innings, while striking out a pair.

Tyler Ukestad delivered the first big blow to Saints’ starter Zach Zenker when blasted a two-out, two-run double over the head of the left fielder in the second inning. Shaun Hogan was thrown out trying to score from first, but the Jays had a lead they would not relinquish 4-0.

Seven runners crossed the plate in the fourth inning. Nate Soulis had two hits in the inning as Jamestown sent 13 batters through the order. All nine starters either had a hit or a run scored in the 11-0 win.

The Jays are back in action today in Minot. Next broadcast will be Tuesday night from the Capital City when the Jays take on Century.
