N.D (NewsDakota.com) Inside the Minot Civic Auditorium Jamestown caught fire fast but in the second half it would be extinguished by the Deacons who claimed a 62-50 win over the Jays in the opening round of the Class A Girls State Basketball Tournament.
The loss drops the Blue Jays to 12-11 on the season. They will play tomorrow in the consolation bracket against Bismarck Century at 6pm. The win advances Shanley into the semifinals where they will play Fargo Davies at the Minot Dome. The Deacons now stand 21-3 overall on the year.
The Jay’s McKayla Orr started Jamestown out on the right foot going a perfect 2-2 from behind the arc scoring 10 points in the opening period. It looked like that total would stand as the high for the first 18 minutes until Shanley’s Sarah Jacobson hit a deep range three as the buzzer sounded. The final basket gave her 12 points and cut the Jays lead from 10 to seven. The final play was just the start of things for the Deacons.
In the second half Shanley would take back the led with the strong play of their sophomore point guard. Jacobson would score another 12 points in the second half giving her a game high 24 points. While the Jays would keep the game close, they would never take back the lead.
Jamestown was led in scoring by Paige Peterson who tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds. McKayla Orr would finish with 11 points.
Jamestown will return to the court tomorrow at 6pm for a chance to play into the fifth place game. You can hear the contest on 103.1 KRVX.
