CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Once again Carrington dominated this year’s State Crop Show during the 77th annual North Dakota Winter Show.
Breanna Bregel of Carrington was awarded the Rutledge Kane Showmanship for the 5th year in a row for her hard work. It’s the sixth time she’s been awarded the honor. Bregel placed first in the categories of Hard White Wheat, Oats, Soybeans, Field Peas, White Beans, Misc. Legumes, Grass Seeds, Millet, Shelled Field Corn and Canola.
Megan Jones of Fessenden received a $500 dollar scholarship award to the college of her choice through the North Dakota Winter Show Scholarship foundation. Jones also placed first in the Hard Red Spring Wheat and the Misc. Edible Beans (colored) category this year.
The 2014 North Dakota State Crop Show Honoree was Curtis Van Dyke of Valley City. Van Dyke has been with the Crop Show since 1986. He began as a box hauler and continued on into the management area of the show and is currently serving as chairman of the show’s Open Division.
A graduate of NDSU, Van Dyke is the Regional Vice President for AgCountry Farm Credit Services. He and his wife Kathryn have two children. Anthony attends NDSU and Tonya attends the University of Jamestown.
Joel Lemer of Carrington placed first in the categories of Amber Durum, Flax and Oil Sunflowers.
Tom Utke of Oriska placed first in the Ear Corn category during the North Dakota State Crop Show awards luncheon during the 77th annual North Dakota Winter Show.
The 2014 N.D. State Crop Show was dedicated to the memory of Richard “Dick” Winter for his dedication and years of service to the North Dakota State Crop Show and the North Dakota Winter Show. Winter passed away on September 20, 2013.
Other award first place winners included; Linda Lemer of Carrington with Sheaves of Oats & Barley, Andra Montgomery of Carrington with Sheaves of Wheat, Jayden Rosenau of Carrington with Confection Sunflowers, Richelle Darling of Leeds with Pinto Beans, Laura Muggli of Carson with Rye, Tristan Johnson of Carrington with Feed Barley and Nate Beyer of Wahpeton with Malting Barley 2 Row.
