(UJ Sports Information)- University of Jamestown head volleyball coach Jon Hegerle announces the signing of Madison Wendel, Carrington, who will join the roster beginning in the 2014 season.

Wendel, a middle blocker, is an All-State and All-State Tournament Team selection and District 7 Senior Athlete of the Year. She recorded 428 kills, 206 digs, 117 blocks and 77 aces her senior season for the Cardinals. She holds school records for most aces in career (227) and most blocks in a season (138).

“I am very excited that Madi has chosen to continue her education and her volleyball career at the University of Jamestown,” Hegerle says. “I had the pleasure of working with Madi at our camps and in our Junior Volleyball program for the past five years. It was apparent in eighth grade that Madi had great potential to develop into a premier player, and I have enjoyed watching her mature as both an athlete and a person of character. Madi’s length and athletic ability, combined with her team-first attitude, will be a great asset to our program.”

Wendel has also been active in basketball, track, National Honor Society, FFA, band, and one-act play. She plans to major in nursing or pre-pharmacy. She is the daughter of Shane and Mary Wendel.
