LAKE (NewsDakota.com) Four teams advanced yesterday to the semifinal round of the Region 4 boys basketball tourney at the Devils Lake Sports Center. Region 4 features two of the top 10 teams in the state, both No. 5 Four Winds/Minnewaukan and No. 9 St. John stay alive and move into the next round. Here are the results:
Four Winds/Minnewaukan 63 Benson County 47
Harvey/Wells County 60 Rolette/Wolford 53
North Star 54 Carrington 29
The Cardinals stayed close for the first half but then North Star pulled away in the second half scoring 30 points compared to 13 from Carrington. The Cardinals were led by Seth Abaurrea with 11, Brady Smith added seven points and five rebounds. Carrington shot only 22% from the field, they were 11/49. The Cardinals end their season at 11-12, North Star improves to 16-7.
St. John 67 New Rockford/Sheyenne 61
The Rockets had four players in double figures but it wasn’t enough as St. John holds on and ends the Rockets season at 12-11. Dalton Poitra led the way with a game high 21 points for the Woodchucks, Sean Jay was right behind him with 19 points, eight blocked shots and nine rebounds. Evan Swenson led the way for the Rockets with 16, followed by Corey Schafer and Seth Gilless with 15 and Ethan Haley added 13. St. John improves to 19-3.
