CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The frost line depth in North Dakota is 6 to 7 feet deep and many residents around the state have reported their water lines freezing.
Barnes Rural Water District Manager Perry Kapaun says rural water district manager’s around the state have been getting a lot of calls this year on what is the best course of action to take to avoid water lines from freezing.
Kapaun says Barnes Rural Water District users with concerns should call his office at 845-1117. Other rural water users should contact their local district office in their respective county to have their district manager answer questions they may have with possible water lines freezing.
Several cities including Oakes and Valley City have reported the same problems with homes and businesses that have frozen water lines this winter. One solution was to run a constant trickle of water is homes or businesses that are idle for long periods to avoid the lines from freezing.
In Oakes, an additional 1,000 gallons will be provided for each residence and business at no charge in the city of Oakes. Anyone with questions should call the Oakes City office at 742-2137.
