(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School baseball team will commence their inaugural season in the spring, and the first manager of the squad has quite the credentials.

Larry Engel, who is currently the technology support adviser, as well as the television production instructor for the school has been named as manager.

Engel played high school and American Legion baseball in McClusky, played for Minot State, along with a team in Manitoba. He was a Legion coach for two seasons in McClusky, and six years as a Babe Ruth coach in Fargo; in which he took his team to state four of those years; winning championships in 1990 and 1992.

Engel says his “coaching style” comes down to the group of young men on the field.

Oakes will be participating in Class B Region I with Kindred/Richland, Enderlin/Maple Valley, LaMoure-Litchville/Marion, Hankinson/Fairmount, Central Cass and Northern Cass.
