(NewsDakota.com) Residents of Oakes will be voting for the city’s mayor, three city council positions and three park commissioners for four year terms each, as well as another park commissioner for a two year unexpired term during elections on Tuesday June 10.
Doug Sitzler, Nick Harris and Dennis Brandriet are all up for re-election for their city council seats, and Monty Zimmer is up for re-election as the city’s mayor.
Oakes Deputy Auditor Zasha Johnson says as of Tuesday, none of the men has yet submitted a petition for their names to be placed on the June ballot. Zimmer told KDDR’s “Mid-Week Focus” last Wednesday that he was still contemplating re-election, and needed to discuss the issue with his family.
Those wishing to run for any of the offices have until 4 p.m. on Monday April 7 to turn in a petition. 28 signatures are required on the petition from those who live in Oakes for the mayor and park commissioner positions, while 30 signatures are needed for the city council.
Petitions can be picked up and dropped off at City Hall, located at 115 South 5th Street from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
