LAKE (NewsDakota.com) Three more games took place yesterday at the Devils Lake Sports Center, the first two games were must win situations to advance to the Region 4 Tourney, followed by the District 7 Championship, where both teams already qualified for Regions. Here are the results:
Region 4 qualifier – Carrington 56 Lakota/Edmore 43
The Cardinals had three players in double figures yesterday as they beat the Raiders and will move on to play in the Region 4 Tourney. Jake Edland led the way with 15 points, six rebounds and two assists, followed by Brady Smith with 12 points including one 3-pointer and Seth Abaurrea added 13. Carrington shot 50% from the field, they were 24/48. The Raiders were led by Robb Kuchar with 14 points and two steals, they end their season at 3-6 in District 7 play and 8-14 overall. Carrington improves to 4-5 in District 7 play and 11-11 overall.
Region 4 qualifier – Harvey/Wells County 81 Warwick 62
Harvey Wells/County shot 48% from the field and had four players in double figures as they roll past the Warriors in yesterdays second game. Leading the way was Andrew Alveshere with 27 points, followed by Evan Nitz with 18, Jason Beck with 17 and Mark Nyhus had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Warwick was led by Antoine Motley with 23 points including two 3-pointers. Warwick ends their season at 3-5 and 9-10 overall, HWC improves to 7-2 and 12-9 overall.
CHAMPIONSHIP: Four Winds/Minnewaukan 51 New Rockford/Sheyenne 37
Trayvon McKay of Four Winds/Minn. was held to just one point the entire first half as the Rockets led at halftime 17-15, but McKay would score 20 points in the second half to help secure a back-to-back District 7 Championship for the Indians. McKay ended with 21 points, 11 rebounds and three steals. Evan Swenson led the Rockets with 18 points and six rebounds. Both teams had 16 turnovers each. There were a total of seven lead changes and the score was tied three times throughout the game. New Rockford/Sheyenne drops to 5-4 and 12-10 overall and the No. 5 Indians improve to 8-0 and 19-2 overall.
