CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Barnes County Commissioner Jon Froehlich believes the Valley City police department’s phone line should be forwarded into the dispatch center on weekends and after business hours for safety reasons.
He says a lot of people are still calling 845-3110 after hours for service calls since the county took over the answering center. Now city and Barnes County residents have to call 845-8181 for non-emergencies.
Commissioner Phil Leitner say some city residents are confused about which number to call for non-emergency services and by rolling the police line into a dispatcher on weekends it would help.
The Barnes County commission voted 3 to 2 to defeat Froelich’s motion to forward the phone line after business hours.
Commissioner Cindy Schwehr says she voted against the motion being some technical questions need to be answered before rolling over the number.
Barnes County took over the Public Service Answering Point System last year from Valley City and a number of these concerns are still being ironed out according to 9-1-1 coordinator Kim Franklin.
