CITY, N.D(NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Hi-Liners wrestling program earned their first tournament win of the season on Saturday. Making it even sweeter was the fact they did it in front of home crowd at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.
The Valley City Tournament began by celebrating 55 years of Hi-Liner Wrestling. At the end of the day the celebration continued, as six different Hi-Liners stood atop the podium. Amongst those who claimed victories in their weight class were Ryle Bjork (106lbs), Jake Ashline (132lbs), Reed Beckman (145lbs), Mark Miller (160lbs), Zach Doty (195lbs),and Jordan Magnuson (220lbs).
For the 8th grader, Bjork, it was his first tournament championship at the varsity level. For Magnuson, in order to win his weight class he had to claim victory over last year’s 220 pound Class A State Champion Olaf Hanson, from Fargo North. He did so in his f
The Hi-Liners victory was a statement made to the rest of the Eastern Dakota Conference. In winning the tournament, the Hi-Liners finished above Wahpeton, Fargo Davies, and Grand Forks Central. All three teams were ranked higher in the conference then the Hi-Liners in the latest coach’s poll.
Up next for Valley City, it’s a trip to the Fargodome for the Rumble on the Red December 27th and 28th.
