CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The estate of Leonard and Marjorie Wright has donated a total of million dollars to two entities in Valley City. Mercy Hospital and Valley City State University received a .5 million dollar gift from the family this week.

Leonard Wright’s nephew Phil Mueller, a 1968 VCSU graduate who played a role in guiding the gift to the university and the hospital. He serves on the board of the university’s foundation.

VCSU President Steve Shirley says the gift is a wonderful contribution toward the education of future VCSU students.

Mercy Hospital also received a separate gift of $2.5 million dollars from the Wright family as well. CEO Keith Heuser says it’s an unbelievable gift from the family that will not only benefit Mercy hospital by the community.

The Wrights were born and raised in Barnes County and made their fortune in the construction industry as the Alaska pipeline was being built.

Majorie graduated from Valley City State Teacher’s College and taught for many years before joining Leonard’s construction company.

Leonard Wright was born and raised near Wimbledon he passed away in 2007 and Majorie was raised near Dazey, she died in April of 2013.
