(NewsDakota.com) The Carrington High School Wrestling Team traveled to Velva last Saturday for the Velva Wrestling Tournament. The Tourney featured 12 teams, mainly from western North Dakota. The Cards won the tourney with 279 total team points, followed by Bishop Ryan with 202, Watford City was third with 122, Des Lacs Burlington was fourth with 115 and rounding out the top five was Stanley with 112.5. Another local team, Harvey, placed ninth with 46 points. The Cardinals had eight champions out of 19 total weight classes.
Zack Broadwell, an eighth grader for Carrington, won the championship at the 106 weight class, he beat Trevor Harstad of Stanley by major decision, 14-0. Here are the seven other champs for Carrington; Bryce Carr (126), Joe Bakke (132), Patrick Freeman (145), Walker Carr (152), Billy Holtan (160), Riley Lura (182) and Seth Zink (195).
