CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Richard Wright and Wayne Engelhard of the Valley City State cross country team have been named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes .

In order to be considered for the honor, athletes must keep a grade point average of 3.5. Engelhard, a senior from Valley City, achieved that goal while Majoring in Health Sciences. Wright, a senior from Starkweather, N.D.,  was able to stay above the 3.5 mark while majoring in Business Education.

While both runners excelled in the class room they also found great success this season on the courses. With their help, the Vikings will be making their first appearance in 27 years as a team at the National Championships held on Saturday, Novomber 23rd in Lawrence, Kansas.   

The Events begin on Saturday morning with the Men’s 8K race at 10:30 am. The final meet will host 95 schools and 327 athletes.
