(NewsDakota.com)- It was a business like opening round win for the Jamestown Blue Jays in the opening round of the state volleyball tournament. The Jays took care of Red River 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-19) to clinch the first semifinal berth in school history.

Jamestown, a team making just their fourth ever state trip, was matchup up against six-time state champion Red River but the Jays didn’t blink.

Rainey Selvig had five first set kills to pace the Jays in the opener. Julina Niemeier’s 8-0 run at the service line put the first set out of reach. Much the same in the second as the Jays used a late run to pull away.

In the final set, Red River jumped to a 12-6 lead but again the Jays never wavered. Scoring 19 of the last 26 points to cap the match.

Jamestown will have a semifinal date with Fargo Shanley after the Deacons disposed of Bismarck 3-1. Game is at 6pm tomorrow and will be on 1400/97.1 KQDJ & NewsDakota.com
