Luella Matzke, 92, of Marion, ND, died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, ND.

     Luella was born on October 14, 1921, on a farm near Milbank, SD, the middle of three children to William and Elizabeth (Moser) Robel. She grew up on the family farm and, at the age of 16, moved to live with the John Trapp family near Marion, ND to care for a disabled cousin. Luella graduated from Marion High School and then worked for the Marion Hospital. On June 16, 1942, she married LeRoy Matzke in Marion and they settled on a farm near Marion and raised six children. In 1962, the family moved to Marion where Luella and LeRoy were the custodians of the Marion Public School for the next 19 years. LeRoy died in July 2003 and Luella continued to live in Marion, walking everyday with her friends. She moved to St. Rose Care Center in May 2013.

     Luella was an active member of the Senior Citizen’s Group and Women’s Christian Temperance Union. She had a heart of a servant to family and her community.

     Luella is survived by children, Peggy (Frank) Osterweil, Vancouver, WA, Quinten “Bud” (Audrey) Matzke, Marion, Marlyn (Dianne) Matzke, Minot, ND, Mary Leines, Duluth, MN, and Barbara (William “Bill”) Bowman, Augusta, GA; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Roger (Karen) Wibbens, Pierre, SD.

     She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Carol Gregerson; son-in-law, Thomas Leines; brother, Quinten Robel; and sister, Kathleen Regan.

     Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church, Marion, with Pastor Rodney Ulmer officiating.

     Visitation: None scheduled. Arrangements are in the care of Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

     Interment: Lakeview Cemetery, Marion, ND.
