(NewsDakota.com) After a tough loss to No. 7 Northwestern (IA) College 96-86 last Friday night at the Jamestown Civic Center, the Jimmie Women were right back at it on Saturday afternoon against Dordt College of Sioux Center, Iowa. The Jimmies point guard Hannah Steele would score a last second shot to put her team up by two and the Jimmies would hold on to an 80-78 victory. No. 10 Jamestown improves to 3-1 overall, The Defenders drop to 2-1 overall.
The Jimmies were down 40-36 at halftime, in the second half there were numerous lead changes. The Jimmies were 19/20 for 95% from the free throw line and shot 40% from the field, they had seven three-pointers, Jessica Buck and Hannah Steele had two each. The Defenders shot 50% from the field.
Steele would end the game with 25 points, seven assists and three steals. Jessica Buck came in off the bench and scored 22 points for the Jimmie Women, she would foul out of the game late in the second half. Guard Carly Jensen added 11 points and three steals. Leading the way for Dordt College was Elise Maresh with 19 points.
Next up for the Jimmie Women is November 8th at No. 5 Concordia University of Nebraska starting at 6pm on AM 1400 KQDJ and NewsDakota.com.
On the men’s side it was a disappointing second half for the Jimmies who were firing on all cylinders in the first half en route to a 96-92 to Dordt. Jamestown came out with guns blazing and scored 60 first half points. Brequan and Breshion Tucker each had 16 points in the opening stanza to lead the way.
Early in the second half it was more of the same as the Jimmies jumped out to a 72-50 lead with 16 minutes to go in the game. For the next 9 minutes the UJ scored just seven points as Dordt outscored the Jimmies 28-7.
Jamestown had no answer for Kyle Lindbergh who scored 25 of his game-high 33 in the second half. He kept backing down his defender to grab easy buckets. Coach Justin Wieck said after the game they tried six different defenders against him to no avail.
The Jimmies are now 2-2 and will play New Mexico on Wednesday at “The Pit” in Albuquerque. Tip-off is 8pm CT with the pregame show beginning at 7:45pm on 1400 KQDJ and NewsDakota.com.
