(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School football and volleyball teams had a rough weekend.

On the court Friday night, the volleyball team lost three games to one to the Hankinson Pirates in the semifinals of the District 1 Tournament. The #6 seeded Tornadoes won the opening game of the match by a score of 25- 23, but the #2 seeded Pirates won the next three to win the match by scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-18. 

Oakes still has an opportunity to advance to the Region I tournament. To do that, they will need to defeat Wyndmere-Lidgerwood the #5 seed on Monday afternoon. Oakes (15-17-1) lost to FCT (11-18) in five games on September 19th. The match is set for 4:30 p.m. Monday, with coverage starting at 4:15 on KDDR-AM 1220 and NewsDakota.com.

On the gridiron Saturday afternoon, the Oakes football team saw their season come to an end after a 16-9 loss to Linton-HMB in the Class A quarterfinals. 

The difference in this contest was the rushing game. The Lions were lead by Rylan Jacob, who amassed 163 yards on 28 carries and scored a touchdown. Oakes had -14 yards on the ground. Oakes quarterback Bryce Meehl had 12 completions for 203 yards and a touchdown in the defeat. 

Linton-HMB moves on to the final four for the second time in three years. The Lions will face the Milnor/North Sargent Bulldogs Saturday at 2 p.m. in Milnor for one of the two tickets to the State Championship game.
