CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) It was a big weekend, for Cross Country in Valley City,as the Hi-Liners hosted the 2013 State Meet at Bjornson Park.
With strong wind gusts blowing in from the north and temperatures in the low 40’s, 728 runners from both Class A and B schools took their marks on the starting line. While Valley City would not finish the day with any runners on top of the podium, it was strong showing for both the boy’s and the girls’ teams.
In the girls 4K race, Mikaylah Ross crossed the finish line first for Valley City at 16:51 in 79th place. With times just over 17 minutes, Jessica Ronning, and Barbara Zubrod would finish the day in the top 150 runners.
In the boy’s race, Casey Engelhard had the strongest finish in 82nd place with a time of 18:33. Close behind were teammates, Nathan Johnson who finished the 5k race in 20:28, and Mikey Meester who came in at just over 22 minutes.
In Class A it was Bismarck High School who won the team race for both the girls and the boys. The Individual Champions were Jordan Jacob of Bismarck Century, in the girls race. The boys champion was Matt Gotta of Bismarck High school.
The girl’s class B team championship was awarded to Hillsboro/Central Valley, while the boy’s team champs were New Town. Asha Smith of Watford City, was the Class B Girl’s Individual Champion. Elliot Stone of Shiloh Christian won the boys race.
