Doris P. Penas, age 83, of Carrington, ND, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.
Doris Pauline Anderson was born March 8, 1930, in Pembina County, ND, the daughter of Clarence A. and Dora (Arason) Anderson. She graduated from Walsh County Agricultural and Training School in 1947. Doris married Lawrence Penas on October 6, 1949 in Crookston, MN. They spent most of their lives in Carrington, ND. Lawrence preceded her in death on July 24, 1979.
For years, Doris provided in-home child care services for many local families. Later she worked for Foster County Social Services, retiring in 1995. Doris was devoted to her family and loved to make holidays and events a special time for all. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, quilting and all types of crafts. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Trinity Lutheran Church, where she participated in the ladies circle group and the quilting club.
She is survived by her children, Dwight Penas (Kathy Thurston), Minneapolis, MN; Linda Penas (Ed Buhr), Riverside, CA; Craig Penas (Nancy Pranke), Carrington, ND; Bruce (Patti) Penas, Fargo, ND; and Laurie (Leon) Eckroth, Bismarck, ND; her sister, Margaret Vistad, Climax, MN; brothers, Russell (Goodie) Anderson and Lawrence (Carrie) Anderson, both of Hensel, ND; along with grandchildren Craig Jr., James, Nicole, Courtney, Erika, Rachel, Luke, Dane, and Danell, and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; her parents; brothers, Arthur Anderson and Clarence ”Andy” Anderson; and sisters, Joyce Ellis and Lorraine Sullivan.
Memorials preferred to benefit Trinity Lutheran Church Women (TLCW).
Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2013, at 10:30 AM in Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, ND.
Visitation will be on Thursday, 9AM – 5PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, ND, and one hour before the service at the church.
A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday at 7PM in Evans Funeral Home.
Burial will be held at Carrington Cemetery, Carrington, ND.
