CITY, N.D. (NewsDakot.com) The Hi-Liners fought through the cold and rain, but they could not hold off Kindred, as the Vikings defeated the home team 20-8 on a Friday night.

Looking to utilize gusts of up to 45 miles per hour, the Hi-Liners opted to give up the ball to go with the wind. Off the opening kick off, the Hi-Liner defense held strong, forcing the Vikings to turn the ball over in their own territory on a four and out series. With a short field to play the Hi-Liners turned to Dustin Lindgren with the ball on the three yard line. The Senior fullback plowed through the middle of the Vikings defense, giving Valley City the early lead. Gabe Brown would convert the conversion giving the home team the early 8-0 lead.

With conditions unfavorable for a passing game, both teams would utilize their run games, but neither team would find the end zone again in the first quarter. The first pass of the game would not come until the second quarter of the game, when Vikings quarterback, Eric Bachmeie, found Scott Cramer nearly 30 yards down field on a down wind pass. Shortly after, Bachmeier would scamper into the end zone on a 23 yard run. The Vikings would stymie the conversion attempt holding onto a two point lead.

With just a few minutes remaining in the half, the Hi-Liners opted to go for it on a fourth and four situation. In the soggy weather the ball slipped though the hands of Eli Allen on the pitch. There to scoop it up was Kindred’s Tyson Tallakson who ran the ball back 61 yards for a Vikings touchdown. Bachmeier would score the two point conversion giving the visiting team a six point lead.

The Vikings would score one more time in the opining minutes of the third quarter, once again, Bachmeir would run the ball into the end zone from 39 yards out, giving the Vikings a 20-8 lead. As the night went on the ball was drooped on the ground a number of times by both teams, but neither team would fined their way into the end zone again.

The loss gives Valley City a 1-3 record in the EDC with a 2-4 record overall. The Hi-Liners are back in action next week when they make the trip to Lisbon for a meeting with the Broncos. You can hear all the action on 1490 KOVC.
