(NewsDakota.com) On a cold, windy and at times rainy Friday night, the Oakes High School football team picked up a hard-fought 7-0 victory against the Kidder County Pirates at Cummings Field.

Both teams had their own troubles moving the ball due to the conditions. Only once did Oakes have the ball within the 10 yard line, while Kidder County never had any goal to go situations.

Tornado quarterback Bryce Meehl had three interceptions, but was able to complete a pass to the Pirate two yard line to Ethan Zetocha with a minute to go in regulation that set up a Meehl two yard touchdown run with 53 seconds remaining for the lone touchdown of the game. Zetocha recorded his team leading fifth interception on the Pirates next drive to seal the victory.

Next up for Oakes (5-1 4-1 Class A Region I) is a road contest at Gwinner on Friday against the Milnor/North Sargent Bison, who lost their first game of the year Friday night to Carrington. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220 and NewsDakota.com starts at 6:30 p.m.
