FORKS, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Hi-Liners Volleyball team took the first two games at Grand Forks Red River last night, but could not hold on to finish off the Rough Riders who earned the victory 3-2.

The loss drops valley city to 3-5 in Eastern Dakota Conference play, while Red River advances to 8-2 in the league.

In game one, the Hi-Liners found themselves down by as much as six points, but rallied back to tie the Rough Riders in the late goings of the game. Led by Clair Olson, Dierra Diegel, and Madison Taylor at the net, Valley City fought back stealing a 29-27 win away from the home team. Game two was another hard fought contest that would extend into extra play. Once again, play at the net would be the deciding factor, as Olson made a big block late in the game that earned a 27-25 second game win for VCHS.

Unfortunately the Hi-Liners could not sustain that play. Shots that would have been perfect in game one and two seemed to sail wide of the end line in game three. The Rough Riders earned the game three victory toping valley city 25-20 to stay alive.

In games four and five it was all Red River, as they were led Keana Burr, and Jamie O’Halloran who made life hard for the Hi-Liners blockers at the net. With a number of cross court shots O’Halloran broke through the Hi-Liner defense that seemed almost impenetrable in the first two games. The Rough Riders Never looked back taking decisive victories in games four and five by scores of 25-10, and 15-9.

Valley City returns home for the first regular season home game in nearly a month, when they host Fargo North on Tuesday, October 8th at 7pm. You can hear the game on 1490 KOVC.
