Sherry Lynn Lorenz, 54, passed away on October 1, 2013. She was born April 11, 1959 to Ruth and Selmer Huus of Valley City, ND. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Valley City, ND.
She attended school at Valley City High School and graduated in 1977. She went on to work various jobs including the Eagles with her mother; Vansco, Hilltop Cafe, Marion High School, and finally, running the Marion Community Cafe.
She married Dick Lorenz on November 26, 1977. They had two children together, Ryan in 1984 and Tonya in 1986. They later divorced. She moved to Dazey, ND and lived there for 10 years, raising cattle while working at Vansco in Valley City.
She later moved to Valley City, making her home there for many years before buying a house in Marion, ND. She took great pride in being a home owner and received great joy from making home improvements. She was very proud of her lawn and enjoyed the local competition with her neighbor Carl, of whose lawn looked nicer.
Sherry demonstrated an incredible work ethic throughout her entire life, especially while running the cafe in Marion. She put her heart and soul into the cafe and community. She rarely missed a Thanksgiving or Christmas, including the Christmas blizzard of 2009 where she had to be picked up and delivered by her son and brother Greg.
Sherry was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother. She taught her children to be strong, to treat people right, how to give hugs, and how to be stubborn, which gave them the tools to succeed in life. She enjoyed her grandkids to the utmost and spoiled them each chance she could. She often laughed and smiled when family was around.
Sherry is survived by her mother, Ruth Huus; children, Ryan Lorenz, Gwinner, ND and Tonya (Benjamin) Duffy, LaMoure, ND. She was also blessed with three grandchildren, two grand-dogs, and many nieces and nephews. Surviving siblings include Guy (Marie) Huus, Frazee, MN; Dawn Hass, Valley City, ND; Jeff (Kris) Huus, Enderlin, ND; Todd (Sharee) Huus, Elk River, MN; Greg (Lisa) Huus, Fort Ransom, ND. ??She is preceded in death by her father and a grandson, Marcus Stockert.
The memorial service for Sherry Lorenz, 54, Marion, ND, will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 7, 2013 at Waldheim Lutheran Church, Kathryn, ND. Burial will be in Waldheim Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, ND. A prayer service will be held there beginning at 7:00. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
